The 8200CD is a well thought out cd player / dac with special attention paid to the regulation. Rather than having a few regulators to feed most of its circuits the Audiolab has well over 20 enabling decent isolation of the circuits and this shows in its audio performance. Of course there are compromises due to the cost of the unit and here is where we can improve upon the original.

Swapping the 'budget' capacitors for better low esr ones improves the overall tonality and detail removing a layer of mush (mush you probably thought was not there). Adding the low noise Spower 'D' regulators to the digital section improves all aspects of the sound making the music more analogue and refined. Clocking the unit helps timing, improves lower and higher frequency details. This cd player can now truly compete with some of the very best cd players... think £4K+
